The work behind the Guilds of the ‘Verse builds on many works of prose and imagery.
Creator: The creator behind the Guild insignias and designs, in addition to most of the text is Halo, of the mighty Utah Browncoats. She is always inspired by one Yellowjacket (a.k.a. William T. Pace, also of the Utah Browncoats) who brought her into the world of patches and Firefly deep lore. His TVIN document is a living inspiration to the Guilds of the ‘Verse.
Geoffrey Mandel: The prolific and vastly talented designer behind not just the worlds of Firefly / Serenity but has also made his mark on the Trek universe, the Muppets, and too many more to name. He has contributed so much to the visual and cultural space that we are privileged to live in.
Shawna Trpcic: One of the kindest people you would ever meet, Shawna’s legacy is deeply imprinted on the sci-fi world. Cosplayers dress in her designs every day and from every fandom she touched. We mourn her passing and send our love to those who loved her.
The Fandom: Some of the text here draws on the Firefly & Serenity Database but most of it is inspired by the show and the fan-built universe around it. All around the world, fans are inspired to create art and crafts, new bits of lore, fan films, comics, RPGs, giant props, smaller props, cosplays, gender-bent cosplays, and continue to gather and celebrate this vast universe that brings us all together.
The Browncoat Ball: At the Browncoat Ball 2016, the Utah hosts introduced the Guild Conclave as a way to provide a break-the-ice activity that would continue interaction throughout the weekend. Each Weekend Pass holder was inducted into a Guild, and then given a “passport” style book with places for recording various activities. Each Guild has a backstory placing it the ‘Verse, and is associated with a specific location. Some of the Browncoat Ball hosts have also done Guild Inductions during their events as well.
Since the 2016 Ball, the Utah Browncoats have continued the Guild tradition, and have inducted new Guild members at cons, events, and other social gatherings.
We look forward to having this be an ongoing tradition, and have created this site as a way to keep the idea alive.
NASA: A window on the real world of science exploration, space agencies around the globe are continually expanding the real-world application of space travel and habitation. From the real company Firefly Aerospace (probably no relation, but still awesome) to astronaut Steve Swanson bringing the Firefly media to the ISS, and then wearing a Firefly teeshirt in space – we are continuously inspired to merge real life with fiction.
Two NASA APOD photos are used on this website – The Cat’s Paw Nebula and the Double Cluster in Perseus.
